About the Property
House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10) Since 2008 we've been helping guests enjoy some peace, tranquility and R & R. Congratulations! After all of your searching, you’ve found the perfect vacation destination. This beautiful Riverbend Retreat is located on Tolomoto Island, a hidden gem on the southern coast of Georgia which comes with history, wildlife, boating, kayaking, birding, screensaver-worthy sunsets, and so much more. This 3100 square foot pet friendly home sits on a tidal river overlooking a breathtaking slice of Georgia’s well-known salt marsh. Regardless of high tide or low tide, your boat will sit safely atop deep water at a private dock behind the house. No boat? No problem! Our fishy friends can’t seem to resist a snack, especially when using shrimp for bait, so grab a fishin’ pole and drop a line in right off the dock known for being one of the best fishing spots in the county. This dock comes fully loaded with fold-down aluminum stairs on the floating dock, for swimming, kayaking, canoeing and easy in and out of the water. Additionally, there’s a lighted fish cleaning station with running fresh water and electric. Whether you’re looking for an outdoor adventure or a quiet and sleepy getaway, this Riverbend Retreat is perfect for you. The house is a short drive off of highway I-95. Upon entering Tolomato you’ll be on a long paved road shaded by Oak trees draped in Spanish moss creating the perfect scenery for a walk or a bicycle ride on one of our 10 bicycles of all different sizes. You will quickly find that “elbow room” is no problem as the house is very open and spacious. The main living area is upstairs and consists of the kitchen, dining room, living room, a half-bathroom and the master bedroom. For the culinarian(s) of the group, feel free to work some magic in a kitchen that includes tools needed for cooking, an Electrolux double convection oven and a Jenn-Air gas cooktop/grill: perfect for preparing your catch of the day. The dining room table provides eight seats to comfortably enjoy your edible masterpiece as well four more seats at the counter. After dinner, get cozy in the family room on one of our oversized couches in front of a fireplace and a 55” smart flat-screen television or choose from a large selection of board games to play on our game table. If you need to be more active there’s a room downstairs dedicated to those friendly family ping pong matches…….the choice is yours! You’ll find the master bedroom on the other side of the upper floor. Also very spacious, the master bedroom has a sitting area with two recliners, a fireplace, and a 55” smart flat-screen television. In addition, there is a sleeper sofa, a desk, and a small library of books for the readers in your group. Conveniently, the laundry room can be accessed through the master closet as well as from the living area and holds a roll-away bed if needed. For the more mature travelers and/or disabled, a motorized chair lift has been installed on the staircase for easier transitioning between levels. A full bathroom connects two large rooms downstairs, with a sink and mirror in each room. One bedroom contains a queen-size bed, a 50” flat-screen television, and a roll-away bed in the closet. The other bedroom has two twin beds and a bunk bed with a twin mattress on top and a full mattress on the bottom (this room can sleep up to five people and is ideal for children. We are happy to answer any questions and look forward to sharing our little slice of heaven with you. |

This is our 4th time that we stayed here and we all just loved it - again! We can?t say enough good things about how wonderful Cindy and Jeff are to work with. They make sure your stay is special! The ?Riverbend Retreat? house and location are perfect. Whether you are a small group or a large group there is lots of room at the house and so much to do along the Georgia Coast. All my boys enjoy fishing and their dock is located in a great spot to catch all kinds of fish! We will be back again next year! Thank you again Cindy and Jeff!

I have to first thank Cindy for her help in answering several questions we had about the area and where certain things we should not miss. Thank you Cindy!! I must say the pictures on the Home Away site do not do this place justice compared to in person...?.WOW...?.my spouse and I, our 3 sons and father-in-law were so amazed on how beautiful the house and surroundings are here. Not only is it in a quant, quiet and well taken care of neighborhood but all the homes in this area are amazing. We dropped our suitcases and just went all around inside this huge home and outside on this fantastic dock that leads to the riverbend. If we had a boat it would have topped it for sure but just the experience of fishing off the dock with our family was enough.. The sunrise and sunsets were beautiful and great to sit out with a cup of coffee in the morning and the others a beer or wine at night. We had no rain that week so it was even better. The inside was plenty big enough for 6 of us and we for sure want to return. The drive wasn't too bad from Miami and well worth it when you arrive. In Darien there is a local seafood place called B&J's Steak & Seafood that was busy and yummy. Whether you like seafood or not they have something for everyone. We toured the areas around Darien such as St. Simmons Island, Jekyll Island (our favorite of the two) and Savannah for the day. Plenty to do and even if you want to stay in the house or fish there is plenty to do. There are also a lot of bait shops to go to that are on the water so you can enjoy that as well. We used Yelp for some great reviews of places to eat and Yelp didn't let us down. I certainly loved this place and enjoyed our time there and would recommend you look no further as this place has it all. The kitchen is neatly organized and has top appliances to use. Thanks again Cindy and Jeff, we loved it here!!!!

My family visited Darien for the first time and fell in love with the area and this home. My boys caught all kinds of fish including sheepshead, red fish, sea trout, sharks, & triple tails. Fishing from the dock was great but we also brought a boat. Even at low tide the creek is deep enough to navigate with ease. Everyday we saw a pair of dolphins come by the dock. We also saw a sea turtle a couple of times. We cooked almost every night and the kitchen had everything that we needed. We purchased exceptional steaks at the Waterfront Wine & Gourmet shop and fresh veggies at Turnip Greens in downtown Darien. The house has a charcoal grill on the deck. We also bought treats at the Sugar Marsh Cottage and visited the First Georgia Hardware & Marine which has lots of tackle. When I was able to drag my guys away from the fishing, we ate at Skippers. The food was great but cooking our own catch was just as satisfying. We took advantage of the bikes, kayaks, and had heated matches of ping pong in the air conditioned game room in the garage. I enjoyed morning walks from one end of the island to the other. My favorite thing was sitting on the screened in porch in the evenings and watching the thunderstorms brew over the marsh. We met neighbors and shop keepers in Darien and even Marsh the lab next door. Everyone was so welcoming and kind. Cindy and Jeff were so easy to work with and checked on us to make sure that we had everything that we needed. The house was extremely clean and the bed in the master was so comfortable. The view from the master bedroom is exquisite. We have had many vacations centered around fishing as well as condo's on the beach with lazy rivers, but this was our favorite vacation spot ever. When I say that we hated to leave, it is not an understatement. We can't wait to go back.
